DIY WOVEN GEOMETRIC RUSTIC 3D FRAME

woven rustic frame diy home

I think I am in love with rope things. I could fill up our home with pretty rustic things, which are perfect with wooden furnitures and a lot of plants. Awww!
Last day I realized this nice 3D frame with the help of my sister, we had so much fun! Are you ready to some hammering and weaving? Let's start!

//

Iniziamo!

***

You need // Vi occorre:

- Rope. // Spago.
- A squared deep frame (I used one like this yet here).
- Nails. // Chiodi.
- Hammer. // Martello.
- A photograph or a picture taken, for example, from a magazine.
- Ruler. // Righello.
- Pencil. // Matita.
- Scissors. // Forbici.

How to // Come procedere:

1)
Start measuring one side and decide how many equal parts  you want to divide it in. My suggestion is to choose about 6-7 parts if frame's side is about 20 cm, more if it's longer. With a pencil and the ruler mark the parts (the white arrows help you to see where I put my marks), then do the same also on the other sides. .

2)
Take the nails and start nailing them to the frame following your marks, but leaving some space between pinheads and the frame. I put the first, my lovely sister all the others (all the 27 others haha!).

3)
After you put all the nails, you should have something like this.

4)
Now we start with the rope. Choose one angle and taking the extremity of the rope (you won't cut it until the end), make it pass under nail's pinhead, then fix the nail with the hammer so the rope won't move.

5)
Now the fun: start making pass the rope under the nails, following the scheme: second side-first nail  ---> third side-first nail  ---> fourth side-first nail ---> first side-first nail ---> second side-second nail etc... We decided to follow the scheme below, it is the easiest and two opposite angle nails remain without rope at the end, but it's not important because we added the other frame part above to cover.
Everytime rope passes under one nail, use hammer to fix it.

6)
There is also an other scheme you can follow, it covers up every nail and it's a bit more difficult, you find the first steps below.

7)
We have almost finished... in the meanwhile check that the rope is fixed under all the nails.

8)
Now insert the glass (if your frame has it) and the part of the frame you worked on in the larger frame's part (if you are not using a frame like ours forget this passage!). Then paste the photo to frame's bottom.

9)
Add the bottom to the frame. // Rimettete il fondo alla cornice.

10)
Done! // Finito!
