ROMAN (CHRISTMAS) HOLIDAY

Rome. The eternal city, the "caput mundi", the place I will never ever be tired of. I had the luck to spend there 5 amazing days with my family during the Christmas break and I collected some great places for food, walks and views. This doesn't want to be the standard travel guide, just see it as a culinary and dreamy journey through the most beautiful city of the world. // Roma.

Writing about Rome is not easy at all: you risk to end up saying something already said
by thousands of other travelers. This is why I opted for a different way to tell you
about this city and decided to share my personal experience and the places I've loved the most.
We stayed at the beautiful Hotel Villa San Pio, in a quite area on the Aventino hill, close
to the Circo Massimo. It is important, when in Rome, booking next to the centre: you'll
be close enough to all the places to visit and you'll enjoy amazing walks in the history.
//
Noi abbiamo soggiornato all'

Roman walks // Passeggiate Romane

If you're lazy you'd probably choose another destination: in Rome you will
walk a lot, but it will be definitely worth it! My favourite walk ever is along the Via dei
Fori Imperiali, from the Colosseo to the Venezia square. It may seem obvious, but find
me another place in the world like that! I walked it so many times, but my favorite was
during a Summer night. Like a dream! Of course the whole centre is perfect
for long, relaxed walks too, but don't forget to visit also the Trastevere area, with its
characteristic streets and colors. Then go to the Celio hill (above the Circo Massimo)
and visit the Villa Celimontana and its beautiful park. So quite that you'll forget
about time and feet-pain (yes, I said it). For a walk in the green the Pincio park is
a must and Villa Borghese, located in it, is a real gem. Seeing is believing!
We made about 22000 steps per day, not a bad way to burn the Christmas meals!
//
Certamente l'intero

Roman views // Panorami Romani

There's always something beautiful to see in Rome, you just need to look around.
I'm not here to tell you which are the most famous destinations and sites, they
are on all the maps, but I want to share my personal favourite spots.
The first one is with no doubt inside the Musei Vaticani: be sure to book your
tickets in advantage, the line to buy them is so long that you'll probably give up.
Then, be also sure to have a guide: this is the third most crowded museum in the
world, some days visitors are about 25000. This means that it is easy to feel a bit
lost once inside and that a guide will make you feel relieved and will explain
everything you need to know about what you'll see.
I simply loved the 4 (yes, 4!) hours we spent inside and the Cappella Sistina, at the
end of the tour, has been like...wow. Really, no words to describe it.
If you want to take beautiful photos of the Fori Imperiali, go to the Campidoglio
at sunset: on its right side there will be one of the most beautiful views you'll see.
And it's been there, for free and for everybody, for 2000 years. Amazing.
Our hotel was clsoe to another breathtaking spot: the terrace of Giardino degli Aranci.
You will enjoy a view on the Tevere river from a beautiful park.
For a different perspective go to the Pantheon and look up from the middle of
the hole. Still making me getting goose bumps after years.
Last but not least, the view from the Pincio terrace is maybe the most obvious,
but there's a reason if everybody goes there to take photos...
//
Ciò significa che all'interno potreste sentirvi

Roman food // Cibo Romano

Roman food is simply heavenly and, after the long walks, is also deserved, right?
Right. I've tried out (almost) all the delicious Roman plates I could in 5 days, here
a quick list of the best places for some (some...? tons of) street food or for the typical Roman meal.
Let's start with a coffee or tea (and one "bomba alla crema") at Antigua Tazzadoro, for
the most delicous coffee of your life, just behind the Pantheon.
For the typical Roman snack on the way try the "pizza e mortazza" (mortazza=mortadella) at
Il Fornaio, via Dei Balluari 5.
For dinner go to Testaccio district, where Roman people go to eat; we tried two
restaurants, Felice a Testaccio (amazing ravioli Felice and mezzemaniche alla gricia) and Bucatino
(delicious amatriciana, daily plate and artichokes. Yes, Romans love artichokes and they
are the Masters at cooking them!).
If you are near Colosseo and want a tasty food break, go to Pronto, original and yummy
sandwiches and salads in a little, lovely place.
For a fried with a view, go to Friggitoria Mami, pick out some fried artichokes (you'll never
get enough!), supplì and cod filets and enjoy them in Piazza Navona, just around the corner.
In the Jewish district my dad found Ba'ghetto, a Roman-Jewish restaurant where I ate
tonnarelli bottarga and artichokes (yeah, yeah, always), giudia artichokes (okay, maybe
I have an addiction...) and zucchini "concia". Delightful.
The last evening (crying face) we went to Etablì, the coziest place for dinner evah:
shabby chic interiors and delicious plates. My choices? Pasta cacio e pepe with truffle,
"tagliere km 0" (a selection of cheeses and cold cuts from the near farms) and their
amazing cheese cake with passito wine.
//
ne avrete mai abbastanza!). supplì e baccalà e godeteveli in Piazza Navona, proprio dietro l'angolo.
arredi shabby chic e piatti buonissimi. Le mie scelte? Pasta cacio, pepe e tartufo, tagliere
