DIY BURGUNDY CHAIN BAG

burgundy bag chain diy fashion

Since when I was a child, I love opening my grandmas' closets and snooping around looking for vintage clothes and unique accessories.
That was Style.
Anyway, we have to admit that something we can find it's not so wearable today without felling catapulted back in times.
There are timeless pieces, but for others we have to give them a new fresh and modern touch; so, when a friend gave me this burgundy-granny-style bag, I decided to add my personal taste and give it some personality.
Ready for being contemporary ladies?

//

You need // Vi occorre:

- An old-looking bag you never wear. // Una borsa datata che non indossate mai.
- About 40 cm (16 inches) of gold chain. // Circa 40 cm di catena dorata.
- 4 rivets (I used jeans type ones). // 4 rivetti (io ho usato quelli per i jeans).
- 4 metal rings. // 4 anelli metallici.
- Two nails (one big, one small, which fit with rivets dimensions. If you have it, use a multi hole punch).
- Hammer. // Martello.
- Two pliers. // Due pinze.
- Scissors. // Forbici.

How to // Come procedere:

1)
Start cutting the handles in the middle. // Iniziate tagliando a metà i manici.

2)
Using the pliers, divide the chain in two identical parts.

3)
Add one ring to each chains' extremity.

4)
Measure the cut handles and decide how long you want them on finished bag, bearing in mind that you'll also add chains.

5)
If you like me don't have a multi hole punch, take out your carpenter spirit and prepare yourself to hammer a lot, making two holes for each handle, one with the big nail on the external side, one smaller on the inner one. This beacuse of the rivets, composed by a little nail and a larger button. The big holes have to be all at the same height, the small ones on the turned down part of the handles, corresponding with the bigger bros.

6)
Insert each handles' extremity into the rings and recreate the bag shape. Add the rivets and press them with your fingers before hammering.

7)
These hands are my beautiful mum's (my partner in crime!) and, as you see in this pic, you have to hammer the rivets to fix them, using a fabric (or your shirt, like she did haha) to not ruin the bag.

8)
Voilà, les jeux sont faits! Hurray! // Voilà, les jeux son faits! Evviva!
